From announce at lists.capital-internet.net Thu May 1 08:38:29 2008 From: announce at lists.capital-internet.net (BPF Boston chapter announcements) Date: Thu, 01 May 2008 09:38:29 -0400 Subject: BPF Boston: Showing of the film Dhamma Brothers on May 16th and 17th Message-ID: <20080501093829.eqagu6b74sgo8wc4@www.bu.edu> Dear Friends . . . this notice was forwarded to me by a friend. I will be away on the dates of the showing, but I hope many of you take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to see the film. . . hugs, joan DHAMMA BROTHERS The film, Dhamma Brothers, about a meditation program conducted in one of the most violent prisons in the US will be shown at the Coolidge Corner Cinema on May 16 and 17. Lionheart's Houses of Healing program had a very strong presence at this prison - Donaldson Correctional Center in Bessemer, Alabama. Approximately 400 men were introduced to meditation through the Houses of Healing program, making the ground fertile for what was to follow. With the encouragement of Jenny Phillips, the film's director and a Houses of Healing facilitator, the support of the Director of Treatment of the AL Department of Corrections (DOC), and the desire to facilitate the retreat from staff at the Vipassana Meditation Center under the direction of S.N. Goenka, we approached the Commissioner of the AL DOC and opened the door for the 10-day Vipassana retreat. Jenny Phillips hired a film crew and has worked tirelessly over a number of years to bring Dhamma Brothers to fruition. If you are in the Boston area on May 16th or 17th, I encourage you to attend one of the showings at the Coolidge Corner Theatre (Brookline). Dhamma Brothers will be shown in the small screening theatre on Friday evening. Seats are very limited on Friday evening. It will be shown in a larger theatre on Saturday evening.
